Suspicious package forces Hackett residents to evacuate

SEVERAL properties in Hackett were evacuated on Sunday (August 5) after two residents found a suspicious package when they came home.

Police started evacuating people at about 4.20pm and placed a cordon around the area while the Bomb Response Team attended to evaluate the situation.

Shortly after 9pm, the package was rendered safe and residents who were evacuated were allowed to return to their homes.

The package will be the subject of examination and analysis by AFP Forensics.

Police are urging anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of Tryon, Burrell or MacKenzie Streets, Hackett in the past seven days to report it.
