ACT Budget / Focus on diversifying the economy

THE ACT Budget commits the government to continuing to driving the diversification of Canberra’s economy through investment attraction and facilitation of major projects such as the proposed new UNSW campus, growing exports in products and services by promoting Canberra to the world, and strengthening our local innovation ecosystem.

The government says it will also provide ongoing resourcing for the Office of International Engagement to support consistent promotion of Canberra across our region and the world, and continue growing international relationships.

In sport, the government says it will support the ICC Twenty20 Cricket World Cup being held at Manuka Oval in 2020, with five women’s group matches to be played in Canberra.

The government will review the use of casual and temporary employment across the ACT government to identify roles or work types currently being done by temporary staff which can be transitioned to permanent roles over time.

“We will also transition externally contracted school cleaning services to a Territory-run service by establishing a cleaning workforce within the Education Directorate. This will deliver better job security and working conditions for our hard-working school cleaners,” the government says.
