Ceilidh Dalton… a leaf found on Woolshed floor

CEILIDH Dalton is holding a “tactile” art exhibition, which is a series of tactile sculptures and jewellery designed to engage the community in a conservation at Strathnairn Arts, 90 Stockdill Drive, Holt. The official opening is at 11am, Sunday, June 30, and will be Auslan interpreted as well as wheelchair accessible, audio-described and braille-translated. “PORTALS” is an exhibition of works on paper created from images by Clare Jackson, who is interested in the relationship between photographs and printmaking. Opening 6pm, Thursday, June 27. The exhibition then continues until July 7, 11am to 5pm, Friday to Sunday.

YARRALUMLA Midwinter Arts and Crafts 40th annual show will feature more than 100 local artists, crafters and entertainers. At Yarralumla Uniting Church Centre, Denman Street, Yarralumla, 10am to 8pm, Friday, June 28, 10am to 5pm, Saturday, June 29, and then noon to 5pm, Sunday, June 30. The official opening and fashion parade will be held at 5.30pm on Friday.

IN “Promised the Moon”, curated by Ursula Frederick, artists Bec Bigg-Wither, Tom Buckland, Heather Burness, Susan Chancellor, Dean Cross, Deirdre Feeney, Lee Grant, Ellis Hutch, Julian Laffan, Jacqui Malins, Rose Montebello, Macdonald Nichols, UK Frederick and Erica Seccombe reflect on the first moon landing and the Canberra region’s role in this mission. There will be a panel discussion at the ANU School of Art & Design Lecture Theatre, 6pm, Thursday, June 27. Then, “Splashdown”, will officially close the reception, at 6pm, Thursday, July 26.

National Portrait Gallery director Karen Quinlan

NEW National Portrait Gallery director, Karen Quinlan, will use the annual Andrew Sayers memorial lecture, in June, to outline her plans for the gallery as it enters its third decade. At the National Library of Australia, 6pm, on Friday, June 28. Bookings to portrait.gov.au

“NEW Tricks” is the graduating exhibition for diploma of visual arts students at the Canberra Institute of Technology in Reid. It’ll run in F block, design space, 37 Constitution Avenue, Reid, opening 5.30pm, Thursday, June 27, then the exhibition runs 10am to 2pm until June 29.

JUDY Parker’s first solo exhibition of fine art photographs, “home-grown”, is at CSIRO Discovery Centre, Black Mountain, 9am to 4.30pm until Thursday, July 25.

ADFAS Molonglo Plains’ Midwinter lecture will be given by Susannah Fullerton, but not on art this time. Titled “Rudyard Kipling: Novelist and Poet of Empire”, the lecture will be at the Roos Club, Queanbeyan, 2pm, Thursday, June 27.
