THE National Gallery of Australia’s winter exhibition, “Monet: Impression Sunrise”, will open to the public this Friday, June 7, giving new insight into the very meaning of Impressionism. The show continues daily until September 1. Bookings to ticketek.com.au or in person at the NGA.

“POLAR Convergence” will comprise works on the Arctic by Rohan Hutchinson and sound works of Antarctica by Dr Philip Samartzis. Hutchinson captures the tonality of the Arctic winter, while Samartzis focuses on the sounds and spaces of the Antarctic continent where volatile weather and extreme climate collide. IN their joint exhibition at Tuggeranong Arts Centre, “Personal and Political”, artist/author Caroline Ambrus retells the childhood classic “The Wizard of Oz”, in a contemporary context, while Annette Schneider’s large-scale paintings focus on the intransient nature of family and friendship in a rapidly changing and deteriorating world.

MEANTIME also at TAC, “Future Fables” is an exhibition of sculptures and drawings by Sian Watson, recipient of TAC’ s annual Sculpture in the Paddock exhibition award, in which she fuses features of humans with animals. All exhibitions open at 6pm on Thursday, June 6 and continue at 137 Reed Street, Greenway, until June 29.

“DEGAS: Passion for Perfection”, directed by David Bickerstaff, will screen at Palace Electric Cinemas noon on June 9. The film journeys from a superb exhibition at The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, where the UK’s most extensive Degas collection is held, to Paris and Italy. Bookings to palacecinemas.com.au
