Sculptor Barak Zelig’s “Hidden from Us”.

CANBERRA sculptor Barak Zelig is among the artists selected by new curator Kath Fries from 58 submissions for the eleventh edition of “Hidden: Rookwood Sculptures” the unique exhibition coming up in September among the gardens and graves in one of the oldest sections of Sydney’s Rookwood Cemetery held from September. Zelig was also selected last year.

PERIPATETIC Canberra artist Michael Winters is off in warmer climes for an exhibition by nine of his students from the McGregor Summer School, held at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba. The school is celebrating its 50th anniversary and Winters first taught there in 1977.

CANBERRA Glassworks has announced its two 2020 Art Group creative fellows, Brenden Scott French from SA and US glass and printmaking artist Carrie Iverson. Each will be provided with a studio space, accommodation and a cash stipend of $10,000 by local development company Art Group.

TWO Canberra designers and Craft ACT members, Estelle Briedis and Daniel Margules, have been representing the ACT among the best and brightest craft and design from around Australia in the “Front | Centre” initiative at Denfair, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

THE Australian Catholic University Prize for Poetry will go to outstanding poems with the theme “Solace”, reflecting on Anne Frank’s supposition: “The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God… I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.” Canberra poet Geoff Page won the $10,000 prize in 2017. Entries (to acu.edu.au) close on July 8.
