Tram accident sees man seriously injured

A PEDESTRIAN is in a serious condition in hospital after he was struck by a light rail vehicle on Barry Drive, Turner, this morning (August 12).

Emergency services raced to the scene at about 9.10am, to treat the man, a 61-year-old, before he was taken to hospital.

ACT ESA says please avoid the location to ensure emergency services can work safely.

ACT police are now investigating the circumstances of a collision between the Canberra Metro light rail vehicle and the man.

Police would like to remind drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to take care around the light rail corridor.

“Don’t cross light rail tracks unless using a designated crossing, and take care just as you would when crossing a road,” ACT police says.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website using reference number 6427063.
