THE ACT government has committed more than $300,000 to upgrade or relocate RSPCA ACT’s shelter in Weston.
The ACT government says the planning study for the shelter, which has been home to RSPCA ACT for more than 60 years, since 1955, will assess options to upgrade the current site or relocate to a purpose-built facility in a different location as well as looking at new ways for the RSPCA to deliver services that complement those provided by Domestic Animal Services. This could include co-locating the RSPCA and DAS.
City Services Minister Chris Steel says: “The RSPCA works collaboratively with Domestic Animal Services and we will explore whether co-location of both facilities will improve animal welfare and provide benefits for both organisations.”
RSPCA ACT CEO Michelle Robertson says the additional funding support received by the ACT government also allows for immediate and short term amenity, equipment and safety improvements at the shelter.
