Man tries to flee during police search

A THEODORE man, 27, attempted to flee from police while they were searching his residence this morning (May 31).

Police went to his home this morning at about 12.45am with a warrant for firearm offences, possession of stolen property and stolen motor vehicles.

An hour later the man fled the residence on foot but was stopped by police a short distance away.

A search of the man revealed a flick knife in his trousers as well as a conducted energy weapon, credit card knife and two clip seal bags containing suspected methylamphetamine in his bum-bag. A subsequent search of the residence also found a modified handgun in one of the bedrooms.

The 27-year-old man has been charged with an outstanding warrant, possession of prohibited weapons and possession of a drug of dependence.

He faced the ACT Magistrates Court today.

Anyone who may have any information that could assist police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website using reference number 6401758.
