Police rammer found hiding in a backyard

A modified firearm was located when police searched the vehicle.

A MAN used an alleged stolen Volkswagen sedan to ram a police vehicle after police attempted to speak with him in north Lyneham yesterday (October 23).

The man, a 41-year-old with no fixed address, fled the scene at about 4.30pm.

Not long after, a significant number of police resources were deployed into the area in an effort to locate the man.

He was subsequently found hiding in the rear yard of a residence in “The Sanctuary” housing complex, where he was arrested. A modified firearm was located when police searched the vehicle.

The man will face numerous charges at the ACT Magistrates Court including driving a vehicle without consent, driving with a disqualified licence, failing to stop, dangerous driving and failing to appear in court.

Investigations into the man’s actions are continuing and further charges are expected to be laid.

Anyone who witnessed the incidents in North Lyneham who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website using reference number 6453286.
