Reckless driver does a petrol runner

POLICE are on the hunt for a reckless driver who allegedly sped through a police stop, sped through school zones, drove on the wrong side of the road and did a runner after getting petrol yesterday (June 6).

At about 12.50pm police attempted to stop the driver of a green Holden Commodore station wagon who ignored police and sped through the intersection of Mockridge Crescent and Griffiths Street in Holt.

The Commodore continued through Holt, Latham and Scullin, and during that time police allege the driver drove on the wrong side of the road a number of times and sped through a number of school zones.

Police also believe the driver committed a petrol drive-off from the 7-11 service station located on Starke Street, Holt.

Officer in charge of traffic operations, David Wills says: “This driver has not only shown a blatant disregard for our traffic laws, but also a blatant disregard for safety on our roads.”

“Driving on the wrong side of the road at oncoming traffic, and speeding through school zones – this is the sort of driving that leads to tragedy,” he says.

“I would strongly urge the driver of this vehicle to present themselves to police before our officers are knocking on your door.”

Anyone who may have any information that could assist police are asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website using reference number 6403858.
