Unused pedal boats leaving the lake

THE legendary pedal boats of Lake Burley Griffin will be coming out of the water  tomorrow (July 3) as the National Capital Authority removes them from West Basin.

The ACT government recently donated the 17 pedal boats, which have been lying
dormant for years at the ferry terminal, West Basin, to the NCA.

The paddle-boat hire business closed when the ACT government controversially bought out the business for residential and commercial development in late 2015.

The NCA has acquired the unused hire boats with a view to “potentially” doing something with the boats in the future, but first they say they need to assess their condition and viability.

A media release describes the NCA as being “excited to be working towards the possible reactivation of the pedal boats on the lake”.
