JUST metres from the government sign warning of waste service disruptions, the optimists of Yarralumla (and others across south Canberra) dragged their wheelie bins to the end of the drive this morning only to drag them back in this evening still full.
The garbage truck drivers walked off the job today (November 2) in support of a wage claim leaving waste (red) bins in 23 suburbs unemptied and some in some areas the recycling (yellow) bin, too.
Households in Chapman, Coombs, Curtin, Denman Prospect, Duffy, Fisher, Holder, Rivett, Stirling, Uriarra Village, Waramanga, Weston, Wright, and Yarralumla missed the waste pick up. While Chifley, Farrer, Greenway, Kambah, Lyons, Mawson, Oxley, Pearce, and Torrens missed both waste and recycling pick-ups.
Excess household waste can be deposited at temporary drop-off sites in Waramanga, at Walpiri Place, off Namatjiri Drive, 66 Springbett Street, Kambah, 7 Finlay Place, Gowrie, and at the Weston Neighbourhood Oval, between 9am and 6pm.
A Transport Canberra and City Services spokesperson says the drop-off sites will only accept three large plastic bags of waste.
