“LAST Summer: Drought, Fire, Flood and Recovery” captures the local response in Araluen, south of Braidwood, to the natural events of the recent summer. IN 2013, potter Robert Linigen lost his home and studio in the Blue Mountains bushfires. After the fires, Linigen created an installation called “194 Homes in the Blue Mountains”, consisting of 194 handmade ceramic cups, each glazed using different materials salvaged from the fire debris of his home. His works are at the Canberra Potters Gallery, Watson Art Centre, 1 Aspinall St, Watson, Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-4pm, until November 1.

“YOU Are Here” is presenting, for one night only, “Lit Windows”, a multi-disciplinary art experience about the thrill of looking into a normal suburban house in Turner after having been stuck at home for weeks. Artworks by Nicci Haynes, Zhi Yi Cham, Hannah de Feyter, Imogen Keen, Nyx Mathews and Farnoush Parsiavashi will be displayed through the lit-up windows. A NEW film about the art and life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is coming to Canberra. Everyone knows her, but who was the woman behind the bright colours, the big brows and the floral crowns? FOUR birds in flight form the inspiration for the next concert by Canberra recorder ensemble BlockSounds — Olivia Gossip, sisters Elana and Shae Leske and directed by Robyn Mellor. The ensemble will perform the works of Bach, Telemann, Hotteterre and Boismortier in a concert of solos, duets, trios and quartets that consider musical flight paths. SIXTEEN members of Canberra Dance Theatre’s Gold and Revel performance groups, directed by Jacqui Simmonds and Philip Piggin, will perform “In the Spirit” on and around Fiona Hooton’s sculpture “Ziggurat”, a straw bale construction erected on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin for the Contour 556 festival. Inspired by the life of Marion Mahony Griffin, it features an original music composition by  Teresa Wojcik.
