Artsday / Canberra choreographer hits the heights in Germany

CANBERRA-born dancer and emerging choreographer Samuel Young-Wright has taken third prize at the “34-34 International Choreographic Competition” in  Hannover, Germany, for his work “Carnegie Solo”. Young-Wright has also received an invitation to bring Carnegie Solo to Solo Coreografico, Exposure Price, Dance Festival Frankfurt Edition 2020.

MEANTIME, principal artist at the Australian ballet Dimity Azoury, who began dancing at the age of four in Queanbeyan and studied for 11 years at the Kim Harvey School of Dance in Canberra, is the company’s guest in “Meet the Dancers” this week. She talks about what dance means to her here.

MELBOURNE Symphony Orchestra returns to the virtual stag tonight (Thursday, June 18) at 7.30pm to continue its online concert series with a livestream of contemporary classical works. Conductor Benjamin Northey will lead the MSO ensemble through a program of fanfare and melodies, featuring music by American composer Aaron Copland, and Australian composers Peter Sculthorpe and Lisa Illean. FRIDAY “Happy Hour” in the Canberra Theatre’s CTC@Home series begins tomorrow, June 19, with local DJ Jemist spinning discs, followed by a reading of the play “The Camel”, by Dylan Van Den Berg, then “The World From Here with Chris Endrey”, the first of an eight-episode variety show.
