Artsday / Canberra musicians come out to play

CANBERRA will be deluged with more than rain this week as its musicians begin to emerge from isolation.

CANBERRA Symphony Orchestra principal clarinet Alan Vivian presents a recital of Schumann, Poulenc, Spohr, Debussy and Mangani, with pianist Susanne Powell. Ainslie Arts Centre (main hall), 30 Elouera Street, Braddon, 7.30pm, both Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28.

WESLEY Music Centre lunchtime concert series welcomes back pianist Robert Schmidli in a program called “Pandemic Consolations”, featuring the romantic music of Rachmaninoff, Liszt and Bortkiewicz. Wesley Music Centre, Forrest, 12.40-1.20pm, Wednesday, October 28. Book here or call 6232 7248.

ANU ORCHESTRA and musicians from the Canberra Symphony Orchestra return live to the stage under the baton of Max McBride, to play Brahms, Shostakovich and Dvorak. “THE Australian Ballet on the International Stage” by Lisa Tomasetti, is a new hardcover book featuring a curated collection of photographs taken from the company’s international tours from 2006-2018 to Tokyo, Beijing, Paris, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles by Tomasetti as official international tour photographer. The book, available here, is also a tribute to David McAllister, the retiring artistic director of the company.
