THE 17th annual Canberra-Nara Candle Festival won’t run in its usual format this year because of COVID-19. Canberrans can celebrate the sister city relationship in the foodie weekend “Itadakimasu” (pronounced e-tad-a-kim-as) from October 22-25, with Japanese-style dishes from more than 20 participating restaurants. Meanwhile in Canberra Nara Peace Park, people will have an opportunity to strike the Rotary Peace Bell from 11am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday. All details here.

IN the play “Normal” by Katie Pollock, teenager Poppy falls victim to a mysterious illness characterised by a twitch that spreads through her body. Others soon follow, in a scenario based on a true story from the town of Le Roy, New York, where a handful of teenage girls suddenly developed symptoms that looked like Tourette’s syndrome. THE Young Music Society will not offer its usual summer music school in 2021. Instead, smaller music programs for school-aged children from the ACT and region will be offered in centres throughout Canberra on weekdays from January 11-22, 9am-3.30pm. BURLESQUE artist Jazida, dancer Noa Rotem, director of Lingua Franca dance and theatre company, Adam Deusien and costume designer Tiffany Abbott have been engaged by Belco Arts to explore the paradoxes of getting closer in “Intimacy”, a new production running from October 22-23.
