Artsday / Drill Hall Gallery’s abstract re-opening

THE ANU Drill Hall Gallery will be re-opening with “Tunnelvision”, an exhibition of abstract sculptures spanning 40 years of creation by James Rogers, opening in two sessions on Thursday, July 30, from 5.30pm to 6.15pm followed by a cleaning break, then 6.45pm to 7.30pm. It will then run until September 27. Bookings essential here

MEANTIME, collaborating remotely during the recent COVID lockdown, Jacqui Simmonds and performers Suzanne Carroll, Rachael Hilton, Hiria Reppion and Amy Macris from the Canberra Dance Theatre have re-imagined and embodied Rogers’ works in a film, “Gesture and Stance”, performed to original music by Rob J. Kennedy. View here.

PHOTOACCESS has three new photo-media exhibitions, “Aberration”, by Jacinta Giles, “Split” by Chris Bowes, and “Ghost Light” by Victoria Wareham, to be opened by the National Gallery of Australia’s photography curator, Anne O’Hehir, in the PhotoAccess garden at 6pm this Thursday, July 30. It’ll then run in the Huw Davies Gallery and online here until August 29.

Canberra theatre artist barb barnett

“INTER-PLAY” is a new program at The Street Theatre led by Canberra theatre artist barb barnett, open to playwrights and theatre-makers at all stages of their careers. It’s an exploration of the interplay between the pandemic and theatre making into the future, the seven sessions will run July 30 to November 26 and are designed for the online space via Zoom, while, running parallel, eight discussions will be hosted by The Street with established playwrights from each state and territory. STRATHNAIRN Arts will open its doors to the public again, from 10am on Thursday, July 30, with the 14th year of Strathnairn Art’s “Squares” People’s Choice Exhibition/Competition, open to entries from experienced and budding artists from around Australia and accessible both live and online. The exhibition continues at Strathnairn Homestead, 90 Stockdill Drive, Holt, 10am to 4pm, Thursday to Sunday, until August 23.
