“LIVE performance is back,” The Street Theatre says. Well not quite yet, but they’re moving towards a live opening on July 25 when the “faux-French” duo Baby et Lulu (musicians Abby Dobson and Lara Goodridge) take the stage at Street 2 with French song, banter, music and joie de vivre. CINEMAS are really opening and “CityNews” has been alerted to a new film, “Romantic Road”, which impressed crowds at the British Film Festival and will return to Palace Electric on July 2. It’s billed as “an adventurous and heart-warming documentary” and follows a modern-day expedition, as eccentric British couple Rupert and Jan Grey drive their 1936 Rolls Royce across India on their way to the Chobi Mela photography festival in Dhaka, Bangladesh. WESLEY Music Foundation and harpsichordist Ariana Odermatt are offering a live recital of harpsichord music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Francois Couperin and Antoine Forqueray, the centre’s first concert after the easing of lockdown restrictions. At Wesley Music Centre, 20 National Circuit, Forrest, this Sunday, July 5. To fulfil distancing regulations, there will be two concerts at 2.30pm and 4pm. AUSDANCE National has welcomed the $250m arts, entertainment and screen package announced by the Prime Minister Scott Morrison last week, but expresses grave concerns about the “significant number of casual, freelance dance workers who are still without any safety net”. They’re writing a more detailed letter to the PM and Arts Minister Paul Fletcher about concerns in the professional dance sector around the highly competitive nature of the funding and its exclusion of so many casual freelance dance workers.
