Belconnen’s $6 million bikeway opens

A NEW 4.7km bikeway linking Florey with Belconnen town centre opens today (November 30).

The $6.22 million bikeway starts on Coulter Drive, Florey, and continues along the old busway on Joynton Smith Drive to the Belconnen town centre, continuing along Emu Bank through to the University of Canberra to Haydon Drive via College Street.

The route also includes a renovated busway on Joynton Smith Drive, pedestrian paths, LED lighting, and the planting of about 200 new native and exotic trees.

A further $1.2m has been committed by the ACT government to extend the bikeway from Haydon Drive to CIT Bruce, including a shared path along Battye Street.

Transport Minister Chris Steel expects design work for the extension will begin in the new year.
