Thirteen new COVID-19 cases in Canberra

ACT chief health officer Kerryn Coleman

THE ACT chief medical officer Kerryn Coleman has confirmed a further 13 coronavirus cases in the ACT today (March 23) bringing the number up to 32.

Ms Coleman says all the new cases are either from close contact or are from travellers, five of which are from the Ruby Princess cruise ship. There is currently no community transmission.

The new cases include five males and eight females aged between 14 and 83 years of age. This includes the student at Lyneham High School identified last night, Ms Coleman says.

She says the increase is largely related to Canberrans returning home from overseas travel and some close household contacts of previous cases.

ACT Health is contacting their close contacts as a priority and will continue working to ensure they are all informed of their self-quarantine requirements.

There are now 32 people in the ACT with the coronavirus. Three of these are in hospital in a stable condition, says Ms Coleman.
