Child inside when shots fired through Narrabundah home

Detective Inspector Reynolds… “Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.”

A CHILD and two adults were inside a Narrabundah home when gunshots fired through the building and a car this afternoon (November 3).

Police say the occupants are shaken by the Goyder Street shooting, which they believe was targeted, however, the child was not injured, nor were the adults.

Detective Inspector Matt Reynolds said a number of witnesses confirmed that the vehicle involved in the shooting drove along Goyder Street leaving the scene at about 2.40pm.

Mr Reynolds said they do have a suspect in mind but would not comment further at this stage.

“ACT criminal investigators and ACT police are on scene and we’ve commenced an investigation into the shooting,” he said.

“At this stage we believe this is a targeted attack on this household and we believe it’s criminal gang related.”

Detective Inspector Reynolds believed the shooting was not over a domestic dispute and instead said it was probably in relation to a business transaction but not necessarily a recognised business. However, he doesn’t believe it was drug related.

The occupants are known to police, Mr Reynolds said.

“Any firearm incident like this is no doubt a concern to the community, however police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public,” Detective Inspector Reynolds said.

Police urge anyone who saw any suspicious activity in Narrabundah today, or who may have information, dash-cam or CCTV footage related to the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website quoting reference number 6665610.
