CIT puts pause on classes

THE Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) will pause all classes while it organises how it will deliver classes during the coronavirus pandemic.

From Monday, March 23, it will stop classes for a week. During this time, CIT CEO Leanne Cover is asking students to not attend campuses.

“This pause will give CIT teaching staff the opportunity to reconfigure delivery of teaching and learning and further ensure social distancing practices into our learning environment, so we can continue to provide ongoing quality training for our students,” Ms Cover says.

“CIT will continue to use its innovative and flexible approaches to adapt and respond to this complex situation.”

During the week- long pause, Ms Cover says student support services will still be available via phone or online.

“Our facilities and spaces across all CIT locations will remain open but we strongly encourage students not to attend campuses,” she says.

“The facilities that will remain open include libraries, CIT Fit & Well facilities for members, and the Reid Early Childhood Centre. Most CIT commercial operations will not be open.”

Bruce Early Childhood Centre is also open.

CIT anticipates classes to start again on Monday, March 30, but has not said how these classes will look at this stage.

“We have not had any reported cases of COVID-19 on campus,” Ms Cover says.
