QUEANBEYAN Players have taken the joyous, optimistic route in confirming its three classic shows for 2021, all to be staged at The Q.

First up in March will be a perennial crowd-pleaser for the Players, “The Sound of Music”, which was already well into production when the global pandemic forced rehearsals to be postponed. The cast has largely remained together, although because of the death of musical director Michael Politi, Jenna Hinton will step into that role.

Next up in June will be a chance to “Brush Up Your Shakespeare” with “Kiss Me, Kate”, the Broadway take on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”, written by Bella and Samuel Spewack with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. Co-directors will be Michael Moore and Joe Moores.

Finally in October will be Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!”, famous for being the first “integrated musical” where the music and lyrics are firmly connected to the script, and here to be co-directed Christina Philipp and Belinda Hassall.

“It is exciting to be able to start planning again and to announce a three-show year for the Queanbeyan Players is a wonderful first,” says president Alison Newhouse.

“We can’t wait to get back on stage and see all those smiling faces again – on stage and in the audience!”
