Cops warn of drunk driving blitz

WITH major sports events on this weekend (October 24-25), ACT police have urged Canberrans, who might be out drinking, to find alternative ways home or risk losing their license.

Police are expecting lots of people to be out celebrating the AFL and NRL grand finals, and the Spring Carnival horse races, and Canberra’s top road cop, Detective Inspector Marcus Boorman warns they’ll be targeting drunk and drug drivers.

He says they’ll also be out doing random breath testing.

“Our simple message is that if you choose to drink, then do it responsibly and find alternative ways home,” he says.

“There are plenty of public transport options in the ACT and they’re all better than gambling with your safety or licence.

“We want Canberrans to have fun and enjoy themselves celebrating, but don’t go over the top.”
