FOR the first time in its history Canberra Theatre Centre will be closed to the public from today (March 18) until April 19 in response to COVID-19.
The closure will affect all scheduled performances in the Canberra Theatre, the Playhouse and the Courtyard Studio. The box office and bar will also be closed to visitors.
Among productions to be affected will be “The Choir of Man”, “Return to Escape from Woomera”, and Bell Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”.
“It is not in our DNA to turn away our beloved audiences and the performers they love. It pains me and the hard-working team at the Canberra Theatre Centre to do so as we face such an interruption,” director of the centre, Alex Budd, said this afternoon.
Where possible, he said, affected performances would be rescheduled to later in the year and performances outside of the closure period would remain on, but decisions regarding extension of the closure would be made in consultation with government and will be communicated to ticket holders.
Canberra ticketing will notify affected ticket holders by email.
