‘Disaster tourism’ danger drives ESA to close road

ESA Commissioner Georgeina Whelan has criticised “disaster tourism”, that is people dangerously trying to get closer looks at the Orroral Valley Fire.

To that end, the ESA has closed Corin Road from the intersection at Tidbinbilla Road, giving access only to residents of private properties along the road.

The agency says the closure is in place for community safety.

“Members of the public have been using the road to park and walk towards the Orroral Valley Fire. This ‘disaster tourism’ puts personal safety and possibly lives at risk,” the ESA says.
