Drugged driver clocked at 190 clicks

A 22-year-old Jerrabomberra man was arrested last night (August 6) after being clocked driving at 190km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Police allege the driver of the Hyundai was initially recorded at 123km/h and failed to stop when officers activated their lights and sirens at about 10.30pm.

Police say the driver reached 190km/h and said it was only on the urging of a passenger that he pulled over. The driver was subject to a roadside drug screen, which returned a positive result.

He will face court at a later date on speed and drug driving charges.

The officer in charge of Traffic Operations, Insp Marcus Boorman, said the behaviour of the driver was reprehensible.

“Driving at that speed, under the influence of drugs and failing to stop for police is a recipe for disaster,” he said.

“There is zero tolerance for people who think they can make up their own road rules and endanger the lives of everyone else on the road.”
