GETTING fit requires a different approach as people age, says Duncan Craig, personal trainer, founder of BoomerAABS and ACT representative of BungyPump.
The “AABS” stands for “Active Ageing, Balance and Strength”, and with a focus on training the over-50s, Duncan offers one-on-one, group or active training classes using the effectiveness of Nordic walking with BungyPump poles.
“This form of exercise uses the whole body, without the knees cracking and the back aching,” he says.
“It’s like walking, except it burns more calories, trains more muscles and is easier on your joints.
“The poles offer all the benefits of aerobic activity as well as strength development, flexibility and balance all in the one activity.
“Using the poles is ideal for exercising in winter [too] as it boosts the benefits of walking, activates 90 per cent of muscles and burns 77 per cent more calories than walking without poles.”
Glad to be back training his clients, now that COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, Duncan says he is keen to help people “shake off the lockdown blues”.
“Being active helps people work on both their physical and mental health, and getting outside is just as important at this time of year,” he says.
