Emergency services warn of a week of storms

AFTER the Bureau of Meteorology predicted a week of storms, the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) is urging Canberrans to prepare their homes for storms before heading off for school holidays.

“As you head off for school holidays, it is important to make sure your home is prepared for potential storms forecasted by the Bureau of Meteorology for next week,” says an ACT ESA spokesperson.

“If you are not prepared for storm or flood, your risk to property damage increases.

“In the worst storms, ESA unfortunately cannot attend to every request for assistance immediately.”

To prepare for storms, the ESA advises Canberrans to maintain their yard and balcony, clean their gutters, trim any branches, fix roof damage, check insurance, prepare an emergency plan and prepare an emergency kit.
