TWO couriers were making a delivery in Manuka when a falling tree struck them this afternoon (March 5).

They received minor injuries after the tree fell on them at about 12.45pm and were not taken to hospital.

ACT Fire and Rescue cordoned off the area for public safety and Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) will remove the fallen tree and repair a damaged park bench and streetlight.

Following the incident, ACT Fire and Rescue are urging the public to avoid parking or standing under trees as they may have become weakened from the rain.

Prolonged wet weather following drought can cause trees to absorb large amounts of water quickly becoming top heavy, says ACT Fire and Rescue.
