CANBERRA REP returns to the real-life stage this week with Neil Simon’s feel-good coming-of-age play, “Brighton Beach Memoirs”.
The play is the first in a trilogy of semi-autobiographical plays all centred on Eugene Jerome, a Jewish teenager who deals with conflicts in his family (“Brighton Beach Memoirs”, 1983), adapting to life in the military (“Biloxi Blues”, 1985) and developing an emerging career as a writer (“Broadway Bound”, 1986).
The production, was postponed because of COVID-19 restrictions, but is back, with current health guidelines meaning there is limited seating availability.
It’s directed by Karen Vickery, with Jamie Boyd taking on the role of Eugene and Callum Wilson understudying the role.
“Brighton Beach Memoirs,” Canberra REP Theatre, Acton, opens in preview 8pm, July 30, then runs Wednesday to Saturday, July 31 to August 15. There will be an education/director, cast and crew talk-back following the preview performance. Bookings to 6257 1950 or in person at the theatre.
