AFTER almost 40 days of firefighting, the Orroral Valley fire, which cut a swathe through the Namadgi National Park and threatened Tharwa and some of Canberra’s southern suburbs, has been declared as “out”.

Yesterday, the Special Intelligence Gathering helicopter, Firebird100, conducted aerial surveillance of the fireground and found no active fire. Smoke has not been sighted from the area in more than 72 hours.
