Games cancelled: Rain closes government grounds

SPORTS matches on ACT government sportsgrounds will be called off over the weekend (October 31-November1) following predictions of heavy rain.

To minimise damage to turf and because of safety reasons, all ACT government sports grounds will be closed ahead of tomorrow’s heavy rain, excluding the Melrose and Nicholls fields and the Woden athletic track, which are made from synthetic materials.

“Heavy rainfall is forecast to fall throughout most of Saturday, with cold temperatures and low evaporation rates and as a result, grounds will be slow to dry out,” according to a ACT government City Services spokesman.

“The condition of the grounds will continue to be assessed, with any decision on reopening sportsgrounds to be made on Monday, November 2.”
