Home wins where coastal and luxury living meet

HIA Home of the Year… designed and built by Steve Andrea Architecture, Smith and Primmer, and Karin McNamara Design.

A SOUTH coast property has won the Housing Industry Association’s (HIA) 2020 Home of the Year for bridging the divide between coastal and luxury living.

Steve Andrea Architecture, Smith and Primmer, and Karin McNamara Design, designed and built the Guerilla Bay home, which took out the award at the HIA ACT and Southern NSW Housing and Kitchen and Bathroom Awards on October 30.

ACT and southern NSW executive director Greg Weller.

When announcing the award, the judges described the home as setting a coastal/luxury-feel by defending against the elements of its location, while embracing the views.

ACT and southern NSW executive director Greg Weller said: “The 2020 Home of the Year highlights the extremely high standards of this year’s entries, with modern architecture and workmanship of the highest quality”.

The design, according to the judges, used a bold palette of off-form concrete, copper cladding and steel windows, and the project team included a high level of detailing and craftsmanship that makes the property truly unique.

“Every room in the home has been placed in an ideal position, taking advantage of the stunning coastal location,” they said.

When speaking about the HIA awards in general, Mr Weller said they bring together the top builders and designers in new home construction, renovation, and kitchen and bathroom projects.

“They vie for the chance to win awards across a range of categories that are judged by a panel of industry experts, and ultimately go on to represent our region at the Australian Housing Awards,” he says.
