QUEANBEYAN-based glassmaker, Kirstie Rea has been announced as the 2020 “DESIGN Canberra” festival’s designer-in-residence. Rea had been commissioned to create a new work that responds to the festival’s 2020 theme of “care”, to be exhibited during the annual summit presented across the city from November 9-29.

THE National Opera is preparing a new “In the Studio” web series, in which the episodes will feature Canberra artists, with recorded highlights from a coaching session artistic director Peter Coleman-Wright had with them in May. “HARRY Potter and the Cursed Child” at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre will be suspended for a further six weeks, until August 9. Ticket holders will be automatically moved to an alternative date from January 6, with the same seating allocation they originally booked. But unlike actors in other theatre companies, the Potter employees, most of whom are on long-term contracts, are in receipt of JobKeeper, so you can be sure they’re keen to tread the boards again sooner than that. THE owner of the Kyeema Gallery at 13 Gladstone Street, Hall is easing restrictions sufficiently to hold a “Meet the Artists” session with painters in the show “The World Around Us”, Nell Anderson, Margaret Carr and Isla Patterson from 2-5pm, Sunday, June 28. There will be food and drinks also inside and under the verandah. The exhibition will then continue until July 19. 

MOVING Archetypes was the first dance studio in Canberra to go online without a gap in classes, director Padma Menon says, and she will continue those online classes for the rest of this term, ending on June 27. But for term 3, starting in the week of July 20, she’s planning a mix of online and studio classes.
