ACT Labor says it will hire about 400 new nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals if re-elected next month.
The commitment is estimated to cost about $240 million, but an ACT Labor spokesperson says it depends on final ratios and recruitment profiles, which will be determined according to population growth and finalisation of construction and upgrades and engagement with frontline healthcare workers through enterprise bargaining negotiations.
Of the 400 new healthcare professionals, it will include more than 200 new nurses, and more than 150 clinical staff including specialists and registrars.
“ACT Labor will also implement nurse/midwife to patient ratios, helping to improve patient outcomes and support our nurses and midwives to provide the best care possible,” says ACT Labor leader Andrew Barr.
