A MAN has been charged with starting multiple fires across Woden early yesterday (May 12) morning.

The man, a 32-year-old, allegedly started a fire at the Woden Hotel in Phillip, which firefighters were called to at about 5.15am. Then, at about 5.20am, firefighters were called to another fire at Woden Bus Interchange, which is also believed to have been lit by him.

A further five small fires were discovered at various locations outside the Woden shopping centre between 5.25am and 6.05am. The man was arrested by police at about noon.

He will face charges at the ACT Magistrates Court.
