WITH its opening delayed for three months because of COVID-19 restrictions, Bean Central in Queanbeyan finally started welcoming customers a month ago, says owner Matt Morrissey.

“It’s great to be operating a cafe in Queanbeyan, highlighting locally-sourced ingredients in such an iconic position,” he says.

As a community cafe, Matt says it’s important to him that Bean Central can build an environment that ensures everyone is provided with an equal opportunity.

“This means we employ staff with disabilities, encourage learning and training of new skills and we love to see our community bloom,” says Matt, who is committed to creating a welcoming and positive environment for everyone that comes in, whether they are an employee or a guest.

“We want to be at the forefront of community spirit within Queanbeyan and being able to provide employment opportunities to people who haven’t been able to secure work within the hospitality industry because of their disability is something we are truly passionate about,” he says.

“At times, we realise and accept that this may impact the speed of service within the cafe, but with time and patience, we know that each and every member of our team will grow and become strong, independent members of the hospitality industry as a whole.”
