THE 36-year-old man who had stolen a car with his 14-month-old child in it in Wanniassa on Wednesday (February 19) allegedly assaulted the child’s mother first.

Police were alerted to the incident at about 12.45pm and after enquiries found the child safe at a home in Queanbeyan later that day, at 5.20pm.

Shortly after, the man was also located in Queanbeyan and was arrested.

He appeared in Queanbeyan Magistrates court yesterday but has since been extradited to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court.

He faces charges including one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault and one count of property damage.
