Music scene mourns the passing of a blues legend

David “Bucky” Buckmaster.

CELEBRATED Canberra music promoter and bass player David “Bucky” Buckmaster has died.

A life member of Canberra Blues Society, he was known as a passionate supporter and promoter of blues, roots and country music in the Canberra region.

Bucky ran live music gigs at the Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah, before more recently relocating to the Austrian Club in Mawson.

In alerting its members, the Harmonie German Club said Bucky’s commitment to live music and artists in Canberra and surrounding areas was unprecedented.

“Until recently, Bucky spent many years being entirely responsible for the live music at the Harmonie German Club and was appreciated overwhelmingly for his contribution to the club.

“More recently, and while carrying the burden of illness, Bucky continued to support musicians and provide endless entertainment to his many admirers at the Austrian Australian Club in Mawson.”

“He will be sorely missed by so many of us who had the honour of knowing him,” says the Canberra Blues Society.
