AN oil spill has closed Lonsdale Street in Braddon.

Firefighters are responding to the spill, and teams from Transport Canberra and City Services will also be on the scene.

Lonsdale Street, city-bound is closed whilst crews ensure the area is safe.

The community is asked to avoid the area.
