THE warning level for the Orroral Valley Fire has been downgraded to “watch and act” thanks to moderate overnight conditions.
Nevertheless, the ESA warns that the 10,000-hectare fire, which is believed to have been accidentally lit by a military helicopter, is still out of control and that people in Tharwa Village, Boboyan Road, Apollo Road, and Top Naas Road need to remain vigilant.
Residents of Banks, Gordon, Condor, Calwell and Theodore should continue to monitor conditions.
There is currently no immediate threat to properties in Canberra suburbs.
The fire is travelling in a north-east and easterly direction towards Mount Tennant, Tharwa Village, Boboyan Road and Top Naas Road. Overnight, there has been an increase in fire activity on the western side of the fire.
The ESA says that the forecast for extremely high temperatures and low humidity presents “increasingly challenging” fire weather for the weekend.
