Plans for new transport ticketing systems, but when?

THE ACT government has announced new, modern ticketing systems for Canberra’s public transport but has not said when the old, “outdated” system will be replaced.

Transport Canberra and City Services has commenced a procurement process for the new ticketing systems, which ACT Transport Minister Chris Steel says will offer passengers a variety of flexible payment methods and an app providing real time travel information.

“With a modern ticketing system, transport users will be able to pay for their bus or light rail fare using their credit card to tap on and off, as well as other flexible payment options including with their phone, smart device, travel cards and other options,” he says.

Mr Steel says the current MyWay ticketing and NXTBUS real time information systems have been in place for some years now and are outdated.
