Preparations begin for ‘tremendous’ soccer hub

CONSULTANTS SMEC Australia has been selected to prepare an estate development plan and design plan for the $24.5 million “state-of-the-art” football facility planned for Throsby, says Sport Minister Yvette Berry.

The ACT government is investing $20 million with Capital Football contributing $4.5 million for the hub’s planning and construction, which is scheduled for 2021.

The new site will be home to multiple outdoor football fields, indoor futsal courts, office space for Capital Football staff and associated amenities.

“The design team includes Capital Football who will lead the consultation with the football community,” Ms Berry says.

The estate development plan is scheduled for completion in mid-2020.

Capital Football CEO Phil Brown says: “Capital Football is excited to see this next phase of the ‘home of football’ development commence. We look forward to working with the ACT government in shaping what will be a tremendous facility for football and futsal”.
