CELLIST Lindy Reksten will step down from her position as vice chair of Music for Canberra’s board to take up the role of interim artistic co-convenor following the sudden departure of artistic convenor Nicole Hammill, who has returned to Bathurst.

She will work alongside artistic co-convenor Rachel Gould.

A familiar figure at Music for Canberra, Reksten has been a tutor, music adviser and principal cellist with Canberra Youth Orchestra.

She is a graduate of the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music and studied cello at the Nordwestdeutsche Musikakademie in Detmold, Germany. She spent 10 years in Germany studying, playing in the orchestra of the Landestheater in Detmold and working as a mentor for students studying cello pedagogy at the Musikakademie.

In Australia, she has been for many years convenor and co-ordinator of several instrumental programs at the ANU Open School of Music. She is a cellist with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and co-ordinates the Kingsland Resident Artists Program.
