Smoke cover is likely as two prescribed fires burn

Share Canberra's trusted news:

TEMPORARY smoke cover is likely to be visible across parts of Canberra today (December 2) as two prescribed fires burn at Jerrabomberra Grasslands and Molonglo River Reserve.

Both prescribed burns may continue through to tomorrow, if required, and will see ACT Parks and Conservation Service conducting multiple small burns, up to 6 ha each, to reduce exotic grasses, particularly Wild Oats, at Jerrabomberra Grasslands.

The 16 ha ecological burn is also being conducted to reduce invasive weeds, to help the native species and enhance the critically endangered Box-Gum woodland, at Molonglo River Reserve.
