SUMMER’S almost here, so it’s time to get ready. Now that pools are open, parents can revise their children’s skills with swimming lessons, to get them feeling confident in the water again. “As we come into summer, it’s important to plan ahead and check your tanks,” says James.  

“Our truck can carry up to 14,000 litres of water which is tested and good quality, that we purchase directly from Icon Water.”

Last year, James says he and the team worked six days a week over summer to ensure people had water during the drought conditions.

“If we don’t get follow-up rain, we might be in a similar position so I encourage those living on the land, [to] plan ahead for summer and clear away anything that might be in the way of your water tank to allow for easy access,” he says.

Delivering quality windows, fast

FIFTEEN years ago, in a small factory, with a staff of five, Skyview Windows was created with the vision to supply quality products in the shortest possible lead times, says managing director Neil Thompson.

Small classes help revise swimming skills

WITH the return of warmer weather, children are more likely to be spending time playing near water, says JUMP! Swim Schools Fyshwick owner and manager Holly Singh.

And because of the impact of covid, as well as winter colds, she says that many families have had a break from swimming lessons over the past few months.

“It’s time to revise the kids’ safety and learn-to-swim skills to keep on top of their confidence in and around water,” Holly says.

“We’re finding that people are keen to get back to swimming lessons and our small classes, with a maximum of seven for babies and up to four for independent swimmers, create the right environment to encourage learning and progress.”

The swim school has a friendly, family environment, according to Holly, who says all staff know the students by name, and the school focuses on intimate classes with expert, qualified swimming teachers.

“Consistency is the key and we know that if kids come regularly to classes they’re up-to-date on their safety skills, including how to roll on their backs to breathe,” Holly says.

Leigh’s happy to help with water tank cleaning

AFTER establishing Leigh’s Water Tank Cleaning six years ago, owner Leigh Maxwell says the successful two-man business has been thriving ever since.

They can vacuum-clean plastic, galvanised and concrete tanks, and also provide liners and repair cracks. 

“We use an underwater camera and monitor, as well as remote start/stop and full-throttle control on our pumps, to ensure a complete and efficient clean, with minimal water loss,” Leigh says. 

He says they’re also working on developing a purpose-built tank cleaning robot, for when access is particularly difficult. 

The business is based in Picton, but services the area from Hawkesbury down to the Snowy Mountains, with many jobs in the Canberra region.

“I really enjoy my work and sorting out problems for people,” Leigh says. 

“Our customers are always happy to see us and we get great feedback for our customer service – we turn up when we say we will and return all our calls.” 

Leigh says the Australian Government Department of Health recommends that water tanks be inspected every two to three years for accumulation of sediment, which can lead to harmful bacteria building up and possibly causing health issues. 

“If you’ve got a water tank that runs your washing machine and flushes the toilet, you can potentially have the dirt and dust washed in, which also damages the systems,” Leigh says.

Aaron’s one-stop plumbing and electrical shop

FROM dripping taps, blocked toilets or sinks to leaky showers and installing dishwashers, Clark Plumbing Services can help with any plumbing issues around the house, says owner Aaron Clark.

Part of Clark Electrical and Air Conditioning, Aaron has recently expanded into plumbing, saying that many of the jobs his team undertakes are closely linked in both plumbing and electrical.

He’s been an electrician for almost 30 years, and says the business is now a “one-stop-shop” for customers. 

Aaron, and his team of nine experienced tradespeople, service the whole Canberra region, helping with problems such as toilets, drains, gutter work, LED lighting, or switchboard upgrades. 

He says they’ve recently added an experienced plumber of 15 years, Tom to the team, as well as an apprentice, Jack.

“All our tradespeople are professional, clean, tidy and respectful, and we have a strong local reputation for accuracy, reliability, excellence and attention to detail,” Aaron says.

“We handle a wide variety of jobs and tasks, from underground leak detection, sewer blockages, septic systems and CCTV pipe camera inspections.”
