Infected traveller: Health chases flight and meeting contacts

AN Australian Defence Force person with COVID-19 may have been infectious when the person travelled on two flights between Sydney and Canberra on February 28.

ACT Health says the flight details are:

  • FLIGHT 1: 6.45am QF1509 Sydney to Canberra; and
  • FLIGHT 2: 2.35pm VA651 Canberra to Sydney.

ACT Health is asking anyone seated in rows 2-6 on the first flight, or rows 3-7 on the second flight, to self-quarantine and call the Communicable Diseases Control information line on 5124 9213.

Anyone else travelling on these flights in other rows are not considered to be close contacts and should monitor their health until March 13 to contact their GP for assessment and testing if they develop any symptoms.

ACT Health says It has been confirmed the person from these flights attended a meeting at Defence Headquarters at Russell.

ACT Health is working with the Australian Defence Force and NSW Health to contact ACT residents at that meeting.

The signs and symptoms to look out for include:

  • fever
  • flu-like symptoms such as coughing, sore throat or headaches; or
  • difficulty breathing.

The ACT Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerryn Coleman, confirms there are currently zero confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the ACT.
