Fabulous photo: Lightning cracks over Parliament House

Photo: Andrew Campbell

ANDREW “Storm Boy” Campbell caught this brilliant shot of lightning cracking over a silhouetted Parliament House last night (February 4).

For reasons unexplained, he was able to frame the shot between the lanes of Commonwealth Avenue Bridge.

Campbell, a news snapper of high reputation, has a wonderful portfolio of storm photos over the national capital, enhanced dramatically by the electric storms of this summer. One can only imagine what his social life will be like once the La Nina effect passes.

The Bureau of Meteorology this week reported that 2020–21 La Niña is likely to have peaked with respect to atmospheric and oceanic patterns in the tropical Pacific. However, impacts associated with La Niña, such as above average rainfall in eastern and northern Australia, are expected to persist into early autumn.
