Police constable struck by car near Cooma

A SENIOR police constable is in Canberra Hospital with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain after he was struck by a car near Cooma overnight.

At about 8.20pm (August 30), officers from Monaro police were in pursuit of a stolen ute on the Monaro Highway, Nimmitabel, near Cooma.

The ute stopped just outside of Cooma, and the driver got out of the car and fled. The police vehicle also stopped, and a male officer got out of the car to chase the driver.

The man was seen getting into a small white sedan before that car has struck the officer.

A crime scene has been established and investigations continue.
